Annika is a current staff member at Scripps Institution of Oceanography where her work in geospatial data analysis, programming, and climate communication supports the Center for Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation at SIO. Her work utilizes spatial data to investigate and communicate the impacts of coastal climate stressors including flooding, sea level rise, extreme weather, marine heat waves, and more.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Aquatic Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). In a four-year undergraduate internship at the Santa Barbara Coastal Long Term Ecological Research (SBC LTER) lab based at UCSB, she researched local kelp forest ecology.  She later volunteered at the Smith Lab at Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) studying coral resilience to climate change in the Southern Line Islands of the Pacific.

In 2021, Annika earned a Master of Advanced Studies in Climate Science and Policy (MAS CSP) from SIO at UC San Diego. Her capstone project investigated the impacts of climate change and compound inundation from sea level rise and extreme weather on hazardous waste sites along the Florida coast.  After graduating, she was selected to serve in leadership roles with the MAS CSP program as a program development coordinator, teaching assistant, and tutor.

She recently worked as a consultant with the Union of Concerned Scientists on an analysis of coastal inundation combining sea level rise and tidal modulations for the contiguous United States and beyond which will culminate in an interactive mapping tool.  

Annika is also the Project Coordinator for the Keeling Curve Foundation where her responsibilities include content creation, web design, and site management.
