South Carlsbad Blvd Climate Adaptation Project
The challenge
Carlsbad Boulevard is a heavily used transportation route for coastal recreation, coastal view access, and general north/south commuting for residents. Just south of Palomar Road, the southbound lane is highly vulnerable to erosion and flooding from wave over-topping.
Our approach and partners
This project is in partnership with the City of Carlsbad and funded by the State Coastal Conservancy. Our team will conduct a detailed cliff retreat analysis and update cliff erosion projections to inform the landward relocation of the road and the stability of the bluff for re-purposing or buffering further hazards in this area. Outreach on the cliff erosion research results will be conducted with the City of Carlsbad, California State Parks, and other relevant agencies and stakeholders.
