Dr. Katharine Ricke was selected as a 2019 Andrew Carnegie Fellow, joining an esteemed group of researchers in the social sciences and humanities. Dr. Ricke is a research affiliate of the CCCIA, holding a joint appointment between Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the School of Global Policy and Strategy at UC San Diego.
Dr. Katharine Ricke was selected as a 2019 Andrew Carnegie Fellow, joining 31 other esteemed researchers in the social sciences and humanities. Dr. Ricke is a research affiliate of the Center for Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation (CCCIA), holding a joint appointment between Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the School of Global Policy and Strategy at UC San Diego.
Dr. Ricke’s research focuses on how uncertainty and diversity influence decisions on climate policy, considering the projected impacts of climate change as well as preferences for how to address them. Dr. Ricke’s goal is to reach conclusions that can guide decision-making in such areas as investments in technology to mitigate climate change, and ways to deal with human migration spurred by climate change. Prior to teaching at UC San Diego, Ricke was a Fellow at the Carnegie Institution for Science.
About the Fellowship: The Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program provides support for high-caliber scholarship in the social sciences and humanities. The anticipated result of each fellowship is the publication of a book or major study that offers a fresh perspective on a pressing challenge of our time. Winning proposals will explore a wide range of topics, including the state of America’s democratic institutions and processes, the cross-section of technology and humanistic endeavor, global connections and global ruptures, and threats to both human and natural environments.
