Dr. Adam Young is pioneering the study of cliffs and beach erosion using high resolution laser imaging (LiDAR) surveys. With this 3-D information, he has been able to capture a number of severe cliff failures in San Diego County this year. Using new techniques, Dr. Young is advancing methods for assessing how extreme storm events and climate change are modifying our coasts and the pace of erosion in these areas.
Dr. Isabel Rivera-Collazo leads the DUNAS Project — "Descendants United for Nature, Adaptation, and Sustainability" — to restore Puerto Rico's sand dunes with culture, ecology, and community in mind. Dr. Rivera-Collazo holds a Center-affiliated joint appointment between UC San Diego's Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Department of Anthropology.
