The Center is a key partner of OceanVisions and will co-host the 2021 Summit, "Towards a Global Ecosystem for Ocean Solutions". Other partners include Georgia Tech, the Smithsonian Institution, Stanford University, MIT, Woods Hole, Skidaway Institute of Oceanography University of Georgia, Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, The Georgia Aquarium, Monterey Bay Aquarium and Birch Aquarium at Scripps, in coordination with the IOC-UNESCO and the Ocean Conservancy, and COMPASS.
UNFCCC Conference of the Parties
CCCIA is actively involved in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) annual Conference of the Parties (COP). In recent years, the Center has sponsored both students and postdocs to attend the two-week meeting, where they present climate research, advocate for science-based climate policy, and work with international leaders to find solutions to the world’s most pressing environmental problems.
ACCESS Justice
The Center is collaborating with Scripps Director of Diversity Initiatives and the EDI Office to bring a new series to our community. Addressing Climate Change through Environmental Science and Social Justice (ACCESS Justice) is an initiative that partners social and environmental justice advocates with climate scientists. During the event, environmental and climate issues will be examined from both a science and social justice perspective. The ACCESS Justice events will take place quarterly, with the first session happening in Fall 2020.
